New mothers adore their new lives but long for the bodies they had before pregnancy.  A Mommy Makeover removes fat deposits and recontours the body to achieve the healthier and more youthful appearance you desire.

The Mommy Makeover is a bundled service of various procedures. It’s typical for a Mommy Makeover to include most of the following:

Each woman is distinct, and pregnancy will affect each woman differently. Accordingly, the procedures will change with each client. Some new mothers will notice greater changes in their abs, while others may see a more drastic difference in their breasts or buttocks. However, the objective remains the same—to give you your pre-pregnancy appearance.

Who Are Good Candidates for a Mommy Makeover?

Plastic surgeons created Mommy Makeovers for moms, of course. But you don’t have to be a mother to receive the benefits of a Mommy Makeover. Any woman who meets the basic qualifications can be a candidate for a Mommy Makeover.

In general, a woman needs to have sound health. This doesn’t mean that she has to have the fitness of a world-class athlete. It simply means that she doesn’t have any serious medical condition that would hinder surgery.

It’s also best if she has no intention of becoming pregnant again. You will lose the effects of the makeover once your body begins to experience the changes that are natural during pregnancy.

Dr. Deigni also wants to make sure that the client has a reasonable expectation of what she can expect to achieve with the makeover. Results can be dramatic, but they’re limited by several main factors: the woman’s basic body shape and her conditioning.

Mommy Makeover Consultation

At Deigni Plastic Surgery, you’re not just one in the crowd—you're a unique individual. Dr. Deigni wants to get to know you better, so expect to have a relaxed but detailed consultation with him regarding your makeover.

Dr. Deigni wants to determine your overall level of health. He wants to take note of any special issues that could influence surgery. For example, do you have a noteworthy pre-existing health condition? This could be anything from a heart murmur to a phobia such as claustrophobia. The doctor will also want to be aware of any surgeries you had.

Do you have allergies to the ingredients and materials used during the procedure or for after-surgery care? What medications are you currently taking? Do you use herbal supplements? Are you on a vitamin or mineral program?

What is your history with tobacco, alcohol, and drugs? Do not feel embarrassed to speak openly about any problems that you’ve had in this area. We’re here to help you, not judge you.

Dr. Deigni will perform a thorough physical examination of the targeted areas, including your breasts, tummy, and buttocks. He’ll note their general condition and their size. He’ll also take photographs to document your before-surgery appearance.

After the doctor has all the information that he needs, he’ll give you an idea of the improvements that you can expect the Mommy Makeover to make for you. He’ll then discuss the options that he recommends based upon your needs and desires. You will remain in charge of your body at all times and will be the one to make the final decisions.

Preparation for Mommy Makeover Surgery

The preparation for a Mommy Makeover is not any more complicated than that required for other basic procedures. You should be prepared to make small alterations to your daily routine, for example, to stop smoking or heavily using alcohol and drugs.

There may be medications that you’re taking for certain conditions that you’ll have to stop using for a while. Any medication or supplement you’re taking that works as a blood thinner may have to be halted. This includes specialized medications as well as something as common as aspirin. This is a standard practice before surgery to curtail bleeding.

It’s important to maintain a healthy routine of eating well, getting plenty of rest, and keeping your stress level low.

Procedures

As mentioned above, the Mommy Makeover is a collection of procedures. Let’s look at the procedures that your makeover is likely to include.

Pregnancy can sometimes leave you with more of a tummy than you had prior to pregnancy. A tummy tuck can give you an abdominal region that matches the rest of your body shape.

The doctor will make an incision across your lower abdomen below your bikini line. He’ll lift the tissue and strengthen the underlying muscles. He removes what is now extra skin and then lowers the remaining skin and sutures it in place.

Dr. Deigni uses a special technique to provide 3-D shaping to your abdomen. This technique not only gives you a beautiful contour, but it also helps avoid the use of drains.

A drain is essentially a small rubber tube extending from the internal surgical site to an external collection bulb or dressing. The bulb and dressing both require regular maintenance. You will appreciate Dr. Deigni’s no-drain tummy tuck because it makes recovery much smoother.

Often the incision is made below the breast, but it can also occur either around the areola or in the armpit. The incision site can vary from person to person for many reasons, including the size of the implant that the patient chooses. Your body shape and preference play a huge role, also. Dr. Deigni will discuss the recommended incision site with you during your consultation.

Similar factors will determine the placement of the implant. The doctor can place it under or over the chest muscle.

A breast lift gives your breasts the firmness and shape that they originally had. The doctor moves your nipples and their surrounding areola to a more desirable height, giving the breasts a healthier and younger appearance.

The incisions for a breast lift occur around the areola. Sometimes additional incisions are made below the areola. The incision that you will have will likely depend on the condition of your skin and the shape and size of your breasts. Other important considerations include how much or how little your breasts have begun to sag and the position and size of your areolas.

Liposuction requires only tiny incisions through which the doctor can remove fat using a suction device. Liposuction is useful to eliminate fat where diet and exercise have had little if any impact.

You may have noticed areas where you simply can’t seem to lose the weight. Perhaps, it’s around your upper arms, knees, or ankles. Wherever it may be, the doctor will remove the excess fat cells from that area. The targeted areas will then take on a slimmer profile in proportion to the rest of your body.

To achieve that shapely bottom that so many people desire, the doctor will insert small amounts of fat into the buttocks to create the correct shape. The injected fat comes from another area of your body using liposuction.

So, you gain not only a more rounded bottom, but you also reduce unwanted fat from someplace else. For example, this would be a great opportunity to get rid of your love handles.

The more procedures that you choose for your makeover logically, the longer the surgery. In general, you can expect it to last six to seven hours. You should plan to spend the first night in the hospital.

The initial recovery period lasts from seven to 10 days. The complete recovery from a Mommy Makeover isn’t much different than the recovery from either one of the individual procedures that make up the Mommy Makeover. The key in all cases is to carefully follow the doctor’s guidelines.

You can expect a reasonable amount of soreness near the incision sites. The doctor will give you a list of suitable over-the-counter medications. If you require prescription medication, he’ll write the necessary prescription.

The goal is to keep the pain at a tolerable level. It should be possible for you to walk as well as cough and sneeze without an undue level of discomfort.

You should also plan to wear mostly comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Additionally, you’ll receive instructions on how to wear certain supportive garments to support your body and help it heal properly.

Don’t try to resume your regular workload before the doctor approves it. It’s important that you allow your body to have a complete, uninterrupted recovery period.

Limit your exercise to only what the doctor recommends. Typically, you’ll be encouraged to stand up and walk around periodically throughout the day. However, you should refrain from any rigorous exercise for some time.

Showers and baths in a bathtub aren’t usually allowed for a few days. Check with Dr. Deigni before resuming your normal showers and baths. Initially, he may advise you to take sponge baths.

If you’re given special dietary guidelines, be sure to follow them. For example, limiting your salt intake will help swelling disappear faster. It’s also a wise idea to monitor your fluid intake so that you never become dehydrated, especially if you’re using pain medication that tends to rob your body of fluid.
